WEB EXCLUSIVE: A new line of TPEs boasts resistance to ignition, low flame spread, and low smoke emission for applications such as electrical enclosures, batteries, automotive, and appliances. Elastocon FR TPE from Elastocon TPE Technologies, Inc., Rochester, Ill., is a family of special halogenated TPE systems with a wide range of hardnesses, from Shore 95A to 50D, that should be suitable for applications requiring stringent FR performance like UL 94V-0. They reportedly exhibit very high mechanical properties, excellent weather and UV resistance, good chemical resistance, and are easy processing. They also do not require desiccant drying. Specific applications include electrical insulation, cords and connectors, sockets, plug ends, welding cables, battery components, automotive fuel and brake lines, and industrial hoses.
