WEB EXCLUSIVE: Lehvoss North America, a new subsidiary of Lehmann & Voss & Co. of Germany, has introduced Luvocom Detectables, magnetic thermoplastic compounds for food-processing machine components. Based in Pawcatuck, Conn., Lehvoss N.A. claims these compounds are reliably detectable by current food-processing industry methods if small particles are released by wear or mechanical damage to the equipment. The compounds contain soft-magnetic fillers in a wide range of impact-resistant resins to meet various engineering requirements and food-contact regulations. The compounds reportedly can be detected in food by x-ray or metal-detection systems even in particles only millimeters in size.
