What boast to be the first medical-grade TPUs with flame-retardant properties have been recently launched by Lubrizol, Cleveland, Ohio. The company has responded to the tremendous growth of sophisticated electronics used in medical-care facilities—applications that make the reduced risk of fire spreading essential.

The new Tecothane FR-TPUs are said to be ideal for equipment that has direct contact with electronic connections such as touchscreen monitors, pressure cuffs, EKG and sensor cables. Their use reduces the risk of fire spreading—an especially critical feature in home care and medical applications where the growing use of electronics can mean an increased probability of equipment short-circuiting.
