WEB EXCLUSIVE: Two of the first parts molded in North America with the new, patented MetaLX technology from Ticona, Florence, Ky., are the left and right steering-wheel bezels for the 2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. Molded-in-color MetaLX metallic-effect compounds are available in Hostaform/Celcon acetal, Celanex PBT, Riteflex copolyester TPE, and Vectra LCP. They can be unfilled, glass reinforced, and/or flame retardant. The Ford steering-wheel bezels use Hostaform LX90Z as a replacement for painted and topcoated PC/ABS. Eliminating paint cuts production cost, scrap, and environmental impact, for a total cost saving of more than 20% per vehicle, Ticona says. MetaLX technology is also used in the bright metallic-look door handles on the current European version of the Honda Accord.
