WEB EXCLUSIVE: Two new polycarbonate alloys have been introduced for automotive interior parts by SABIC Innovative Plastics, Pittsfield, Mass. The first is low-gloss Cycolac DL 100LG ABS/PC for non-painted parts. It is said to provide a high-quality appearance across a wide range of grains and colors for trim parts, entry steps, and consoles. SABIC showed a steering-column cover molded from this new compound at its booth at the VDI conference in Mannheim, Germany.
Also new is Geloy HRA170D PC/ASA resin with permanent antistatic performance to keep interior parts looking fresh and clean. Instead of incorporating a slip agent, this compound uses an electrically conductive additive to maintain a surface-resistivity of 1012 ohm/sq. Since color pigments can have a big influence on antistatic properties, SABIC offers this compound in a wide range of precolored versions. Target uses include trim, interior mirror housings, and overhead consoles. It is based on Geloy HRA170 compounds, which has been used for several years in auto interior trim.
