WEB EXCLUSIVE: Shin-Etsu Silicones of America, Inc., Akron, Ohio, has expanded its Select-Hesive LIMS KE2090 series of self-adhesive liquid silicone rubbers for thermoplastic overmolding. The company has extended the hardness range at both ends of the scale, so it now extends from 5 to 70 Shore A. Also, Shin-Etsu reports that these materials have proven to achieve primerless adhesion to high-temperature thermoplastics like PEEK, polysulfone, polyphenylsulfone, and polyetherimide. With such materials the ability to run the overmold temperature higher allows the LSR to cure faster. Potential applications include reusable medical and dental instruments that require high-temperature autoclave steam sterilization.
