WEB EXCLUSIVE: LyondelBasell (U.S. office in Wilmington, Del.) is introducing three new LDPE and HDPE grades that reportedly outperform industry standards used in cables. First is Petrothene KR52828E, a multimodal HDPE made with Hostalen ACP technology for medium-voltage outdoor cable jacketing. It reportedly shows superior processability over standard HDPEs in customer trials.

Also new is Lupolen GX 4087 LDPE in development for medium-voltage cables that distribute power from generating plants and substations to transformers. Based on IEC 60243 tests, it provides excellent insulation performance compared with competing LDPEs.

New Alathon M5370RF HDPE reportedly can help reduce transmission loss in foamed coaxial cables for high-frequency telecom transmission lines. The company says the new grade “has the potential to become the industry’s benchmark in terms of the polymer dissipation factor.” These grades are available globally.
