New and innovative nylons will be launched at K 2013 in Düsseldorf this month by both the Radici Group of Italy (U.S. office in Wadsworth, Ohio) and TeknorApex Co., Pawtucket, R.I.:
•Radici is introducing a new grade of Radilon HHR (high-heat-resistant) nylon 66 with enhanced resistance to hot air at up to 230 C (446 F). Previous grades in this series cover applications up to 210 C.
•Radistrong is Radici’s new long-glass filled nylon 6 and 66 for metal replacement. Manufactured by pultrusion, they are available with 20% to 60% glass-fiber content.
•Also new from Radici is a family of Radilon 612 nylons. These materials reportedly have exceptional chemical resistance, even to salts such as zinc chloride and calcium chloride. Fuel lines are one potential application.
•Teknor Apex is launching a toughened nylon 66 for injection molding that boasts good flow for intricate or multi-cavity parts, along with flexural strength and low-temperature impact-resistance for demanding automotive applications. Chemlon 104 is aimed at fuel-line fasteners and cable ducts, where it can withstand the stresses of assembly and end use and endure exposure to cold. It has a notched Izod impact strength of 140 J/m (2.6 ft-lb/in.) @ -40 C, tensile strength of 62.1 MPa (9000 psi), and flexural strength of 72.4 MPa (10,500 psi).
