Topas Elastomer E-140 from Topas Advanced Polymers, Florence, Ky., is aimed at food and pharmaceutical packaging and medical devices. It can replace nylon and PVC in film and tubing. In one film application, it is a component of a barrier layer that adds flexibility and abuse resistance. It has a tensile modulus of 6400 psi, ultimate elongation greater than 450%, and 89 Shore A hardness. It has good thermoformability, good electrical insulation, radiation sterilizeability, and adhesion to other polyolefins in overmolding.
