WEB EXCLUSIVE: Developed to meet the performance and cost challenges of the passenger railcar industry, new Bayblend MTR (mass-transit rail) and Makrolon TG polycarbonate sheets from Bayer MaterialScience, Pittsburgh, were launched at the recent annual meeting of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) in Chicago. Bayblend MTR sheet complies with the latest recommended levels for flame, smoke, and toxicity, such as the U.S. Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) DOT: 49 CFR 238, Appendix B. The sheet also satisfies Bombardier Transportation Standard SMP 800-C for toxic gas generation. Bayblend MTR comes in an array of colors and textures.
Makrolon TG PC sheet reportedly meets stringent FRA requirements for impact and ballistic performance in railcar glazing. It can be produced in clear and custom tints.
