WEB EXCLUSIVE: Victrex Polymer Solutions, Conshohocken, Pa., has developed a series of enhanced Victrex PEEK compounds that incorporate high-modulus carbon fibers for a boost in strength and stiffness and weight-reduction potential. PEEK HMF grades are based on Victrex 90-Series PEEK, which has been used primarily to mold tough, thin-wall parts. Addition of high-modulus carbon fibers to the high-flow PEEK has enabled replacement of metals such as steel, aluminum, titanium, brass, and magnesium in aircraft system attachments, industrial machinery, and semiconductor and medical equipment.
These compounds have been tested in a range of chemicals including hydraulic fluid, jet fuel, oil, grease, lubricants, and other aircraft service fluids. They also boast excellent fatigue performance and a long-term use temperature of 500 F (260 C).
