WEB EXCLUSIVE: What’s billed as “the industry’s first line of polystyrenes containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) PS” is being highlighted at NPE2012 in Orlando this month. Three grades come from Styrolution America LLC, the new styrenics joint venture of BASF and Ineos, based in Channahon, Ill. Each grade contains around 25% PCR content, supplied by NextLife, Boca Raton. Fla. (Two grades with 25% PCR content from NextLife were launched by Ineos Styrenics last year.) The grades are said to be FDA compliant for food contact and to process the same as 100% virgin PS. They are for opaque applications such as cutlery, housewares, office accessories, and appliance parts.
•PCR3125 for injection molding is based on a 3100 GPPS grade.
•PCR5625 for injection molding is based on a 5600 HIPS grade.
•PCR6225 for extrusion is based on a 6200 HIPS grade.
