WEB EXCLUSIVE: What’s described as a “premium” PC/PET alloy for horizontal automotive body panels is made from the “highest quality post-consumer and post-industrial recyclates,” according to Bayer MaterialScience, Pittsburgh. Featured at last month’s Fakuma show in Germany, new Makroblend GR 235M is based on PET beverage bottles and a polycarbonate grade for 5-gal water bottles. Bayer says it “performs as well as virgin” and its property profile is comparable to virgin Makroblend UT 235M, an established grade for body panels such as spoilers, trunk lids, skirts, and covers for antennas and convertible-top compartments.
