MATERIALS: TPEs for Food, Beverage Contact

Premium-quality grades with low odor and extractables.

Premium-quality TPEs for sensory-neutral food and beverage packaging and processing were launched at NPE2015 by Polymax Thermoplastic Elastomers, Inc., Waukegan, Ill. These SBC compounds boast low odor, low extractables, low gel formation, and customizable coefficient of friction, clarity, and sealing performance.

Initially, they have been positioned to replace more costly and/or difficult-to-process materials such as silicone rubber in injection molded and extruded packaging. Specialty
formulations can be used to manage permeation of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and oxygen and improve sealing properties in uses such as screw cap liners and wine closures.

They can also be used in tubing for the delivery of dairy products, commercial food packaging, and bag-inbox wine. They also have promise for use in personal-care and other consumer, medical, automotive, and industrial products.
