WEB EXCLUSIVE: PlastiComp, Winona, Minn., recently announced what it claims is a compounding breakthrough with a translucent long-glass reinforced TPU compound for molded structural parts. The patent-pending compound, containing 20% to 40% long glass, could lead to new structural applications where see-through quality or contact transparency imparts added functionality. Molded parts reportedly have smooth surfaces, as well. These compounds are expected to offer advantages in medical devices, pumps, filters, power tools, sporting equipment, or anything requiring a see-through part-section.
