WEB EXCLUSIVE: Significant downgauging potential and outstanding processability on both LDPE and LLDPE extrusion equipment are claimed for new Enable mPE 35-05CH, a metallocene MDPE from ExxonMobil Chemical, Houston. With a density of 0.935 g/cc and 0.5 MI, this hexene copolymer is said to exhibit processing and shrink properties similar to LDPE together with the mechanical properties of higher alpha-olefin LLDPEs of similar density. Compared with fractional-melt LLDPE, its lower melt temperature (254 F) improves bubble stability and lowers energy consumption. It boasts good impact (75 g dart drop) and tear resistance (Elmendorf 27 g MD/520 g TD) plus low internal haze (17%), suiting it to coextruded shrink films, overwap film, laminates, stand-up pouches, and medium- or heavy-duty bags.
