A new line of tiebarless hydraulic machines will be built in China—initially only for that market—by the Milacron China div. of Milacron Inc., Batavia, Ohio. However, sales of the new Freedom line will not be restricted to China if export demand emerges. Freedom presses are said to be distinguished from other low-cost, general-purpose machines built in China by its tiebarless design, which provides a large platen face to accommodate large molds or tools with core pulls and other mechanisms that take up space between the platens. Milacron previously built Freedom presses in India but has updated the design that will be built in China. Features include an injection unit from Milacron’s Maxima or Magna lines, U frame design, and a patented “balance cylinder” system to keep clamp forces uniform. It also has an electrohydraulic control pump and upgraded clamp design. No tiebars means no need for a tiebar puller, so the machine can fi t in low-ceiling areas. The original Freedom FR 300 (300-ton) model is joined by a new FR 130 (130-ton) model introduced at April’s Chinaplas show in Shanghai. An FR 200 will be available in early 2009.
