Experimental work by Univation Technologies, a Houston-based joint venture of Dow Chemical Co. and ExxonMobil Chemical Co., has obtained surprisingly high outputs from a twin-rotor continuous mixer by running it at higher speed with a variable-speed direct drive. Univation's work (U.S. Pat. Applic. # 20070109911) was done at pilot plants in Bound Brook, N.J., using standard Kobe and Farrel continuous mixers, which normally operate at 300 rpm.
