A new modular rheometer can be adapted quickly and easily for different applications. The Haake Modular Advanced Rheometer System (MARS) from Thermo-Electron Corp., Newington, N.H., can perform rheological measurements in CR (controlled-rate), CS (controlled-stress), and CD (controlled-deformation) modes, in rotation and in oscillation. The base frame has room for additional modules. A new sensor allows negative normal forces to be measured in tensile tests. Temperature can be controlled from -150 to 600 C. Measurement and evaluation are performed by Haake’s RheoWin 3 software and a new sensor-recognition tool.
