Field tests reportedly show that a new process aid and mold release improves flow and reduces heat history in PVC footwear production and provides excellent release at a use level of only 0.3 phr. MoldWiz INT-66PV from Axel Plastics Research Laboratories, Woodside, N.Y., is said to have solved flow problems for a PVC footwear molder that used up to 40% regrind, which reduced compounding throughput by more than 20% and resulted in high molding rejects. Use of INT-66PV gave compounding throughput equal to or better than with virgin resin alone plus good cosmetic results in molding. In another case, INT-66PV was added to a PVC footwear compound containing chemical blowing agent. The process aid allowed the compound to be mixed at 35° F lower temperature and lower shear rates, which made it possible to use less of the costly blowing agent.
