A new model of moisture analyzer for plastic samples boasts 10 times greater accuracy than ever before. The Mark 3 analyzer from Omnimark Instrument Corp., Tempe, Ariz., is the next generation of the company’s Mark 2 instrument, which measures weight loss on drying. One improvement is the elimination of convective air currents that could affect measurement accuracy. Also, the new design is said to eliminate drift due to heat transfer. The Mark 3’s balance reportedly is not affected by thermal variations, so elevated standby temperatures are no longer needed, which allows measuring heat-sensitive materials. Greater accuracy means it can measure moisture levels of 50 ppm in PET, for example.


Other improvements include a larger display screen, greater data memory, and a USB port that allows for remote diagnosis and software upgrades. Drying procedures developed for the company’s Mark 1 and Mark 2 instruments can be used without alteration on the Mark 3, and drying programs can be downloaded directly from the Mark 2.
