Spain’s Merquinsa (U.S. office in Seabrook, N.H.) has expanded its range of bio-based TPUs with new grades ranging from 85 Shore A to 60 Shore D. The Pearlthane Eco series was launched as the industry’s first bio-based TPUs at the K 2007 show in Dusseldorf. These new injection molding grades are made from up to 60% renewable resources such as vegetable oils and fatty acids. They are said to offer equivalent or better performance vs. traditional TPUs for consumer electronics, sporting goods, and footwear. Meanwhile, PolyOne Corp., Avon Lake, Ohio, has introduced two families of OnFlex Bio compounds based on Pearlthane Eco TPUs. The 5300 Series is designed for easy processing by injection, extrusion, and calendaring. It shows good adhesion to many other thermoplastics. Hardness range is 70 to 85 Shore A. The 5100 Series of glass-filled compounds provides stiffness, abrasion and impact resistance, and low CLTE. (603) 474-0971 • www.merquinsa.com (866) 765-9663 • www.polyone.com
