NatureWorks LLC, Minnetonka, Minn., has come out with a PLA grade having higher heat resistance than any of its previous products. Ingeo 3801X contains an additive package that provides high heat and impact resistance as well as cycle-time performance suitable for semi-durable products such as computer cases, telephones, audio components, cosmetics, toys, consumer electronics, office accessories, and promotional products. The new grade offers dimensional stability up to 120 C/248 F plus notched Izod impact strength greater than 2 ft-lb/in. and modulus of 450,000 psi. Injection molding cycle time is said to be comparable to styrenics.
