The Melt-Disk direct side-gating hot-runner system from Mold-Masters Ltd., Georgetown, Ont., has been upgraded with a new size and an ability to angle the hot tips. It was first announced at the K 2004 show in October 2004 in Dusseldorf, Germany, and introduced commercially earlier this year. The Melt-Disk has a disk-shaped mini-manifold with external heating that conveys heat right up to the hot-tip seals. A unique expansion joint provides a leak-proof seal when heated yet is easily removed when cooled. At the December EuroMold show in Frankfurt, Germany, Mold-Masters supplemented its initial Melt-Disk model (44-mm-diam. and two or four gates) with a new 60-mm model having up to eight radial gates. And now the tips now can be angled at 0°, 30°, 45°, or 60° from horizontal.
