A new all-electric toggle press series debuted at last month's Platex show in Osaka from Toyo Machinery & Metal Co., Ltd. (represented here by Maruka U.S.A. Inc., Rockaway, N.J.). The Plastar Si-IV series will replace the current line and comes in seven sizes from approximately 55 to 250 tons, as well as a 600-tonner. Two additional sizes between 250 and 600 tons are being developed. Its new V-shaped, low-mass toggle clamp was developed jointly with Kyoto University. It boasts lower platen defl ection, a high-speed ejector, and wider tiebar spacing than on previous models. The V-clamp is standard on sizes up to 250 tons, while another new design is employed for the 600-ton press (details were not available). The new line uses three servo motors for plasticating, injection, and ejection and two more for clamping. The redesigned injection unit delivers speeds of 300 to 500 mm/sec with a response time of 17 to 20 millisec. New low-friction linear guides help support the injection unit and reportedly improve screw and barrel alignment. A double nozzle-touch mechanism reduces defl ection of the stationary platen. The system also introduces the new PLCS-12 touchscreen graphical controller, whose "All-in-One" menu screen provides instant access to any screen. The controller can monitor up to 32 other injection presses with the aid of a server. Also, Toyo's new Plastar Grease is said to reduce grease consumption by 90% Tel: 973-983-1000 . www.marukausa.com
