New compression presses from Lawton Machinery Group (LMG), DePere, Wis., are designed for molding fuel-cell plates. The press has a servo controller, accumulators, and servo valves that permit higher press speed and a faster, smoother transition to full clamp pressure than previous models. The servo valve has fast response due to the servo controller’s 1-millisec scan time. The controller averages four scans to give feedback to the servo valves and permits “bumpless” transition from rapid close to high-pressure pressing. A 45° gib-guiding system ensures platen parallelism within 0.002 in./ft— important for molding fuel-cell plates with channels. The press can be equipped with a rotary-table preformer that produces “hockey pucks” with weight uniformity of ±0.5 g. (920) 347-1983 • www.lmgpresses.com
