Now there’s something besides liquid silicone rubber for liquid injection molding. Lanxess Corp.’s Techical Rubber Products business unit came out with ultra-low-viscosity (ULV) Therban AT 3400 VP elastomer, said to be the fi rst commercial hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) suitable for LIM. The product is aimed at automotive in-place gaskets and seals with hardness under 40 Shore A. HNBR has excellent resistance to automotive fuels, oils, ozone, and abrasion. Its viscosity range is 100,000 to 1 million cp without plasticizers.
