New purging agents from three companies were exhibited at NPE in Chicago. Neutrex, Inc., Houston, featured Purgex 461 Plus for cleaning LDPE and LLDPE blown film and sheet lines—often without the need to remove the screen pack. It is a blend of an LLDPE carrier and FDA-approved, non-abrasive ingredients for use at a 250 to 450 F.
The Dyna-Purge Div. of Shuman Plastics, Inc., Depew, N.Y., showcased its newly improved Dyna-Purge X for a broad range of extrusion applications, including profi les, cast film (photo at Sonoco Packaging, Hartsville, S.C.), and compounding. This enhanced version offers dual-action scrubbing by non-chemical, non-abrasive means. It is said to be very effective at purging biopolymers. Users of the original Dyna-Purge X reportedly find they can use less of the new version, experienced even better purging, and found it easier to post-purge. Sun Plastech, Inc., div. of Japan’s Asahi Kasei Chemical Corp., Parsippany, N.J., is now manufacturing its Asaclean U high-performance, styrenic-based grade domestically, resulting in up to 20% lower cost. Formerly a premium product, this is now the general-purpose Asaclean grade with both high-performance cleaning and low residue. This mechanical purging compound can be used to purge most commodity and engineering resins (except PP) within the 350 F to 680 F temperature range.
