Two new LCP/PPS alloys are said to combine the properties of both materials to meet the demands of complex electrical, electronic, and industrial components. Vectra V140 and V143XL from Ticona, Florence, Ky., are said to improve on PPS by nearly eliminating flash while also providing better flow at relatively low injection pressures and high strength in thin walls. They also have mold temperatures of 80 to 120 C, versus the 135 C typical of PPS. Compared with straight LCP, the new alloys offer higher weld strength and less warpage in many designs. The new alloys retain the physical and mechanical properties of LCP and PPS. For instance, Vectra V140 has ultimate tensile strength of 1450 MPa, flexural strength of 230 MPa, and compressive modulus of 16,000 MPa. The grades are compatible with lead-free soldering in surface mount applications.
