Torninova Corp. in Italy (U.S. office in Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) frst showed its extrusion line for making 10-layer barrier bubble wrap (produced by combining two five-layer films) at the K 2007 show in Germany. That line could make product 1.6 meters wide. Now Torninova has nearly doubled the width. Its latest 10-layer barrier bubble-wrap line has a 2.8-meter die to make 2.5-m bubble wrap. It will be shown for the first time at Plast ’09 this month in Milan and will be featured but not shown at NPE in Chicago this June. The three-extruder line produces an A-B-C-B-A barrier structure in the feedblock and splits that to feed two dies that extrude two 5-layer films simultaneously to make the 10-layer bubble wrap. Two thin (less than 0.5-micron) nylon layers in the middle of each film retain air better in the bubbles to protect heavy objects. The feedblock and double casting dies were built by Simplas SpA in Bisuschio, Italy. (631) 676-7062 • www.torninova.com +39 (0332) 470 591 • www.simplas.it
