A new supplier has entered the North American extrusion blow molding machine market, offering a range of equipment for dairy and juice bottles. Portola Blow Mold Technologies, LeGardeur, Que., is a new unit of Portola Packaging, Inc., San Jose, Calif., a molder of HDPE bottles and closures, molds, and bottling equipment. The new division offers a range of machinery that has been in production at Portola’s four Canadian plants for the last two years. Portola says its machines are comparable in performance to other makes but are less expensive. The company will offer machines for production of single-serve containers (4 to 32 oz) with eight to 12 cavities. They will use a 3.5-in. extruder and bank-style molds for easy changeovers. Another series, for handled containers of 32 oz to 2.5 gal, has four to eight cavities. The machines will feature variable-frequency drives, Allen-Bradley CompactLogix controllers, and high-efficiency screws. An open design reportedly allows for easy access and maintenance.
