New amine-cured MDI prepolymers are said to be the fi rst to allow casting MDI-based polyurethane-urea elastomers with superior mechanical properties. The Baytec MAC line from Bayer MaterialScience, Pittsburgh, are novel polyester and polyether prepolymers made with a specialty MDI. They are available for sampling and will be commercial by the year's end. Up to now, MDI prepolymers have reacted too quickly with aliphatic or aromatic amines. Baytec MAC prepolymers reportedly have reactivities similar to those of current diamine-extended TDI prepolymers and produce elastomers with comparable properties. They also boast broader processing latitude than glycol-extended MDI hot-cast systems. Tel: (412) 777-7677 . www.bayermaterialscience.com
