A new modular hot-runner system has a main feed bar that delivers melt to removable and interchangeable sprue and nozzle carrier bars. This economical system comes from Mold & Hot Runner Technology AG in Germany, represented here by MHS Mold Hotrunner Solutions Inc., Georgetown, Ont. Announced at December's Euromold exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, the new Modular system is mounted on a rigid steel chassis. Its individual carrier bars reduce manifold machining time since the manifold is not cut from a single block. It also allows the manifold to be easily adapted to individual molds. Users can connect or disconnect carrier bars to create manifolds with one or many drops. Nozzles and sprue bars can be up to 1000 mm long with melt channels up to 22 mm diam. MHT offers a cascade controller for sequential valve gating. New steel cylinders actuate the valve stems and permit application of higher forces at lower hydraulic system pressure. This expands the process window and improves performance, especially where long shut-off pins and a more viscous melt are involved. It comes assembled, prewired, pretested, and ready for installation. A 10-drop system is the largest supplied so far.
