Beaumont Technologies, Inc., Erie, Pa., is now introducing its In-Mold Adjustable Rheological Control (iMARC) mold inserts for commercial sale. The iMARC inserts were first shown in prototype form at NPE 2006. They build on BTI’s MeltFlipper technology for balancing multi-cavity molds that do not fill evenly, despite being geometrically balanced. What’s new in iMARC is that the inserts can be manually adjusted in the press to allow fine-tuning of flow balance in single- or multi-cavity molds, whereas the MeltFlipper is a fixed-geometry insert. BTI is working to develop an electronically adjustable iMARC system. Currently, iMARC systems are custom designed by BTI for each application, but the company envisions future online software that would walk customers through the process of selecting their own system and ordering it via the Web.
