A new builder of parallel twin-screw extruders for PVC profiles, APX AG in Grossfehn, Germany, was started by many of the original employees of CPM GmbH, a defunct builder of PVC twin-screws at the same address. When CPM closed, Cincinnati Milacron bought its name and intellectual property, but didn’t take physical assets or employees. APX builds counter-rotating twins in 75- to 130-mm diam. and from 26:1 up to 40:1 L/D. They differ from CPM’s in being air cooled. APX also can build one-piece screws without removable elements in order to provide higher torque and output. APX developed special one- and two-stage extruders for blending wood and other natural fibers with polyolefins or PVC without predrying.
