WEB EXCLUSIVE: T-Conn, a major connector manufacturer in Taiwan, has chosen Stanyl ForTii as the halogen-free housing material for its wide range of battery connectors. Stanyl ForTii from DSM Engineering Plastics, Evansville, Ind., is a relatively new polymer, nylon 4T, introduced in 2007. It boasts high heat resistance and dimentional stability, plus very low moisture uptake and flame resistance without halogen or red phosphorus. It also processes easily on standard equipment. Stanyl ForTii is also used in the world’s first SMT RAST-type pin connectors, produced by Stocko Contact in Germany. The material withstands lead-free reflow soldering without blistering. Its high weld-line strength and toughness allowed it to replace LCP in the T-Conn battery housing, and its processability was said to surpass that of PPAs.
