Several new “auto-adaptive” features in the Genesys drying system are said to save 35% to 55% in energy for PET drying as compared with other current drying systems. Genesys is being introduced here by Piovan in Italy, parent of Universal Dynamics, Inc., Woodbridge, Va. One novel feature is loss-in-weight control, whereby weight sensors on the drying hopper sense any
changes in the throughput rate of the processing system and adjust dryer airflow accordingly. Automatic airflow management and stabilization is said to keep airflow constant, even as the filter gradually becomes dirty, as opposed to the cyclic airflow curve observed with conventional dryers. “Intelligent” power management
recovers almost all of the regeneration energy, according to Piovan, which is reportedly 50% to 80% more than other systems. Contact John Heinrikson, Piovan PET Systems business manager, based at Universal Dynamics.
