Negri Bossi USA, Newark, Del., is developing its first press capable of molding parts from powdered metal or ceramic with a plastic binder. The new Plastic, Ceramic and Metal (PCM) injection machine is being developed in a partnership with Mathson Industries, Troy Mich., a designer and molder of plastic, ceramic, and metal-powder parts. The machine is intended to run any of these materials by changing the screw, tip, and barrel. Negri Bossi is modifying a 300-ton (V270-1450) model in its Canbio fully hydraulic line with a special injection unit and upgraded temperature and process controls to allow more precise control of flow and pressure. The first machine will be installed at Mathson in September.
