WEB EXCLUSIVE Two suppliers have introduced three new pressure instruments, primarily for extrusion, though they could be used in other plastics processing applications: The SPX-T temperature-compensated pressure sensor from Dynisco Instruments, Franklin, Mass., has a built-in RTD temperature sensor. Automatic temperature compensation prevents drift, and the user does not have to re-zero the sensor after the process is brought up to running temperature. Temperature readings can be output to a display, giving the user temperature and pressure sensing in one instrument. The sensor employs “Dynilarity,” a proprietary Dynisco algorithm that linearizes the pressure signal, compensating for interference in the plant environment. Also new from Dynisco is the UPR800 family of temperature/pressure panel indicators (photo) in a 1/4-DIN, NEMA 4X package. The LED display has large digits, a bar graph, and alarm indicators. Dual inputs allow the unit to display pressure and temperature simultaneously, or it could monitor differential pressure—such as before and after a screen changer. The unit is fully configurable by touch-buttons (no more cumbersome hardware “jumpers”) and remotely configurable via the Modbus option. A compact melt-pressure indicator has been introduced by RKC Instrument, South Bend, Ind. The PG500 interfaces with any brand of strain-gauge pressure sensor. The NEMA 4X case is only 60 mm deep and is available in 1/8-DIN horizontal configuration. The unit has a 4.5-digit LED display, three digital inputs (hold reset, alarm interlock reset, auto-zero), and up to four digital outputs for alarms, analog retransmission, RS-422A or RS-485, and ANSI or Modbus protocol. Also available is a matching temperature indicator, the new AG500. (800) 396-4726 * www.dynisco.com (574) 273-6099 * www.rkcinst-usa.com
