Two fiberglass suppliers recently introduced several new continuous and chopped-fi ber products for thermoplastic and thermoset composites: MultiStar 277 is a new assembled roving for Class A SMC auto exterior panels. It comes from Johns Manville (JM), Denver. Tel: (800) 654-3103 . www.jm.com For the fast-growing direct long-fi ber thermoplastic compounding and molding (D-LFT) market, JM introduced StarRov LFTplus 474. It is aimed at colored polypropylene parts, in which it is said to generate low fuzz and improved surface fi nish. ThermoFlow 768 is JM's newest chopped strand, aimed at high-temperature thermoplastics like PPS, PEEK, and polyetherimide (GE's Ultem). It comes in 4-mm length and 10-micron fi ber diam. Two other chopped strands for high-temperature thermoplastics are new from Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio. PerforMax 798 is said to withstand up to 400 C (752 F) with 40% lower outgassing than previous products, suiting it to small electronic parts of PPS and LCP. Also new is PerforMax HR 562, said to be unmatched in hydrolysis resistance in PPS hot-water plumbing and heating. Tel: 800-GET-PINK . www.owenscorning.com
