Two hybrid machines with two-platen hydraulic clamp and servo-electric screw rotation are new from Boy Machines Inc., Exton, Pa. Also new is a vertical-injection/vertical-clamp hydraulic press. The company rolled out Boy 55Ae (61-ton) unit and 90Ae (99-ton) horizontal hybrid models with a new eject-on-the-fly function accomplished with a double-pump system. In one test at a German molder, a Boy 90Ae was compared with a standard Boy 90A, using a 24-cavity mold for PET bottle caps. The new hybrid cut the cycle time by about 10% from 7.1 to 6.4 sec. In addition, Boy added a larger model to its vertical machine line. The 60.6-ton vertical/vertical Boy 55 VV has precise guiding by four tiebars, 360 x 350 mm tiebar spacing, and shot capacity of 159 g.
