New polyester SMC materials for commercial lighting and HVAC parts come from IDI Composites International, Noblesville, Ind. SMC E-204 White TR has total reflectance of 93.9, suiting it to high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting fixtures. Its high dielectric properties allow terminal blocks to be molded into the fixture, unlike metal assemblies of individually fabricated terminal blocks. For air-conditioner drain pans, new SMC E5V-204 is a corrosion-resistant alternative to galvanized sheet metal. It has a UL94 5V flame rating and high glass content to withstand pressure from the A-coil above the drain pan.
