A new soft nylon 6 was introduced at K 2007 as a cost-effective mono-material alternative to sequential blow molding for automotive charge-air ducts. Unreinforced Durethan DP BC 600 HTS from Lanxess Corp., Pittsburgh, has an elastic modulus of about 50,750 psi (conditioned). It is recommended for production of charge-air ducts with integrated bellows using suction blow molding and parison manipulation. This approach is deemed more cost-effective than sequentially coextruding two nylons of different hardnesses. Lanxess says the material meets the demands of turbo-charged engines that are growing in popularity due to their lower fuel consumption. (412) 809-1000 . www.us.lanxess.com
