Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio, has licensed compounder RheTech, Inc., Whitmore Lake, Mich., to manufacture and sell in North America long-fiber thermoplastic (LFTP) compounds of glass and polypropylene using proprietary OC technology. RheTech will sell these products under the Rhemax name. Up to now, OC’s LFTP has been available in North America only as an import made in Europe by licensee SABIC EuroPetrochemicals BV in the Netherlands. RheTech will begin producing Rhemax products in the third quarter using PerforMax glass roving, which was developed by Owens Corning specifically for LFTP compounding. OC says LFTP is the fastest growing segment of the worldwide composites market.
