Hydraulic or pneumatic valve-gate designs will soon be added to a new line of hot-runner nozzles that are said to improve heat transfer through the nozzle body and into the tip and minimize heat loss to the mold. VN valve-gate nozzles were developed by Volastic Co. Ltd., a new supplier of hot-runner nozzles, manifolds, and temperature controllers based in Bangkok, Thailand (now represented by PCS Co., Fraser, Mich.) They reportedly will process at lower temperatures and pressures to mold with shorter cycles due to superior heat control. The VN system will be aimed at packaging and electronics. The nozzles will have a carbide tip encased in a thermally conductive metal that forms an extension of the nozzle shaft and draws heat through the shaft rather than through the steel body. VN nozzles may be introduced by the end of the first quarter. For the present, PCS offers Volastic’s hot-tip nozzles.
