Two new maleated terpolymers bond to "difficult" substrates in multilayer packaging.

Two new maleated terpolymers bond to "difficult" substrates in multilayer packaging. Lotader 4403 and 4503 from Arkema in Philadelphia are designed for extrusion lamination and coating. These low-odor resins are said to bond oriented PP, PET, and nylons, as well as PE, metallized and printed plastics, cellophane, aluminum foils, paper, and fiberboard. They permit coextrusion coating onto EVOH, nylon, and polyester. These ready-to-use resins require no dilution, primers, or drying. Lotader 4403 (9 MI) and 4503 (8 MI) have melting points of 171 F to 172 F, Vicat point of 117 F, ultimate elongation of 750%, and ultimate tensile strength of 1320 to 1392 psi.
