New portable magnetic thickness-measurement devices for molded containers have integrated digital signal processing for high-precision lab or production use. The MBT 7200 and 7400 from AGR Topwave LLC, Butler, Pa., create and process all measuring signals completely within the sensor itself. Unlike analog devices, this minimizes errors introduced into the measurement data during transfer over the cable. It will be exhibited at NPE this month. Battery-operated MBT models are useful for measuring difficult areas of bottle geometry such as heel, base, and shoulder regions, decorated areas, small radii, and complex shapes and corners. The devices have a hardened probe tip, min/max readings, multiple calibration modes, and a menu-controlled user interface. Two sensors and various magnetic ball sizes are available to cover thicknesses up to 10 mm.
