A German sheet extruder and thermoformer has developed a lightweight sheet laminate for round-trip containers that has a dimpled core resembling corrugated cardboard. Triplex Kunststoffe GmbH in Heiterbach believes the product to be unique. Triplex forms the stiffening pattern of positive and negative dimples using two intermeshing rollers, one of which is aided by vacuum. The dimpled core is sandwiched while still hot between smooth top and bottom sheets, which are heated on rollers. Triplex makes the sheet 1.5 m wide with dimple thicknesses of 3, 5, and 10 mm and sheet weights from 1 to 3 kg/m2. Tel: +49 (7456) 93 99 0, www.triplex-gmbh.de
