Five exhibitors at the recent NPE show in Chicago brought out devices for dust control in materials handling: The newest version of DeDuster technology from Pelletron Corp., Lancaster, Pa., is the XP Series (photo), which is more economical, more energy efficient, and half the height of previous models but has twice the cleaning area for higher throughput. It is also said to provide more thorough removal of streamers and dust as small as 1 micron. Sizes range from 1000 to 30,000 lb/hr. The FMX central filter with a reusable cartridge is new from Wittmann Inc., Torrington, Conn. Standardized components help make this all-stainless model much less expensive than previous units. It is also much more compact, and the hinged lid allows easier filter removal. The Air Wash cyclone separator and deduster from Kongskilde Industries, Bloomington, Ill., comes in three models for 500 to more than 2000 lb/hr. It's said to be a simple system that conveys and cleans regrind in one step. Precision AirConvey, Newark, Del., expanded its central dust collectors with five larger models. While earlier Reverse Jet Filter models have 12 or 16 cloth cartridges, new ones have up to 64. Flexicon Corp., Bethlehem, Pa., launched the BFF Series bulk-bag discharger for use in-line with pneumatic conveying. It eliminates dust during untying, emptying, retying, and removal of bulk bags and promotes complete discharge of contents. The dust-tight system is vented to the optional Bag-Vac dust collector, which collapses empty bags, eliminating the dust emitted with manual flattening. Flexicon launched two manual dumping stations-one for pneumatic conveying systems and one with a flexible screw conveyor-for bags, boxes, and drums. Each has a high-velocity fan to suck dust onto two cartridge filters with automatic reverse-pulse cleaning.
