A new processing aid for TPO, PP, and other polyolefins has been shown to be non-fogging and to improves scratch and mar resistance of automotive TPOs. MoldWiz INT-35 CPD from Axel Plastics Laboratories, Inc., Woodside, N.Y., is a blend of modified polymers and fatty amides in the form of a 100%-active pellet or free-flowing powder. It has been shown to reduce scratches at use levels as low as 1% to 2%. In standard tests, no scratching was evident at 10 N of force, and significantly less depth of scratching occurred at forces up to 20 N. In TPO, this additive reportedly showed no impact on modulus, strength, or heat resistance. Fog testing (SAE J1756) of plaques containing 1% of the additive yielded a reflectance value of 98.5%—exceeding the automotive industry standard.
